Declaring that "anti-Black racism, along with implicit and explicit bias against Black people, is an entrenched and pervasive problem both in New Jersey and across the country" the N.J. Division on Civil Rights has issued guidance prohibiting employment discrimination based on hairstyles.

In response to what has been perceived as this growing problem, Governor Murphy created the N.J. Misclassification Task Force to study the issues and make recommendations. The Report offers strong medicine for employers.

In April, 2019, EANJ surveyed a cross-section of its members to evaluate their experiences with FLI and what they were anticipating with FLI’s recent expansion.
